Effective commissioning has been identified in the Welsh Assembly Government's strategy Designed for Life (the Government’s ten year strategy for the NHS in Wales) as one of the key drivers to deliver the radical transformation that will deliver world class services to the people of Wales.
In November 2005, in line with a commitment in Designed for Life, the Welsh Assembly Government set up a Commissioning Task and Finish Group to review the impact of NHS commissioning, and assess how it might be strengthened. This focused upon Scheduled Care, Unscheduled Care, Long-Term Conditions, and Governance.
The Government is due to publish its Commissioning Framework for Wales for consultation in the coming months. Further details on this may be found in Wales’ Minister for Health and Social Services, Dr Brian Gibbons AM's, Ministerial Report to the Health and Social Services Committee in September 2006.
Our partnership, along with the Long Term Conditions Alliance Cymru, looks forward to its publication and to influencing the future of commissioning in Wales for the benefit of people with long-term conditions.
Further information may be found through NHS Wales and the National Frameworks for Wales.
